Luke Fishtank (Luke Johnson) began his music career in 2021. Inspired by analog recording techniques used by Ariel Pink, Mac Demarco, and Ween, Luke purchased a 4-track cassette recorder and began recording and writing songs, teaching himself guitar along the way. His first releases were under the name “Fish Tank Revival”; tape compilations of the recordings he made between ages 16 and 17. Luke later purchased an 8-track cassette recorder, renamed, then began refining his sound while working on a full-length album.

Fish Tank Revival

Although released before the inception of Dog Safe Records, the Fish Tank Revival EP was dubbed the first release of the Dog Safe Records discography. The tape was a self-dubbed run of 10 copies, which were distributed to close friends. One was mailed to a YouTuber named Viewbob, who later uploaded the tape on his channel where it received some traction.
All songs written and recorded by Luke Johnson, except for track 6 “Baby” written by Donnie & Joe Emerson.
